The City & Guilds In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment Course (2377-77)

This 2-day course will kick-start your electrical career and introduce you to the world of PAT Testing. Learners will gain a well respected City & Guilds qualification and some practical experience in PAT Testing. It is ideal for those wanting to work as a PAT technician or for anyone who has been tasked with PAT testing as part of their current position.

This course runs regularly at our Gateshead venue and is taken over two consecutive days.

Course Details

This 2-day programme covers both theoretical and practical aspects of in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment. It includes electrical safety, appliance classification, legal requirements, the Electricity at Work Regulations, and hands-on PAT testing using supplied equipment (delegates may also bring their own testers). Suitable for beginners and professionals alike, the course provides the knowledge and certification needed to carry out PAT testing safely and in compliance with current regulations.

Location: Metropolitan House Business Centre, Metropolitan House, Gateshead, NE16 3AS

Assessment: A 1 hour 45 minute open-book online examination for the City & Guilds 2377-77 qualification.

Certification: City & Guilds Level 3 Award in the In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (2377-77).

This course provides everything you need to prepare for and complete the 2377-77 qualification in a supportive, structured environment.

Course Suitability

There are no official pre-requisites for this course, but it is advisable that learners have:

  • A basic electrical background or understanding of electrical principles
  • An understanding of Ohm’s Law
  • Fundamental maths skills
  • Some prior knowledge of PAT testing

This course is best suited to individuals who already have a foundation in electrical work and wish to gain a recognised qualification in PAT testing.

Although not mandatory, we strongly recommend completing our one-day PAT Competence Course before progressing to the 2377-77 qualification.

Essential Readings

Learners must be familiar with the IET Code of Practice (5th Edition) and bring an original hard copy with them to the course.

Examination Notice: In accordance with City & Guilds regulations, digital devices are strictly prohibited in the examination room. Only original printed copies of the IET Code of Practice are permitted.
