The City & Guilds 2391-51 (Level 3) Periodic Inspection & Testing of Electrical Installations Course is up to date and compliant with the IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition: BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 Requirements.

The City and Guilds 2391-51, level 3 is ideally suited to those with limited experience in the periodic inspection of electrical installations. If you are already working in the electrician industry, but have yet to carry out out inspection and testing since qualifying, or you require an update before progressing into other positions or qualifications, this course may be right for you.

This City and Guilds 2391-51 Periodic Inspection and Testing Course covers five core sections:

  • Requirements for periodic inspection and testing
  • Safety management procedures when undertaking periodic inspection and testing
  • Requirements for the periodic inspection of an electrical installation
  • Requirements for testing electrical installations during periodic inspection and testing
  • How to perform periodic inspection and testing of electrical installations

Important Course Details

    5 days
    • Although there are no formal qualifications required for this electrical verification course, it is expected that you should have a good knowledge and understanding of electrical science and principles. Previous experience of electrical installation work, either within the electrical contracting industry or an allied trade is essential.

It is best suited to those who are working within the electrical industry and are actively involved with the inspection and testing process with previous experience with live boards. It is also helpful for you to have an understanding of 3 phase systems. There is a small element of practice, however, no formal practical training will be provided.

You should also understand the latest IET Wiring Regulations BS7671 and an up-to-date 18th Edition certificate.

In summary, this course is designed for those who want to progress their testing and inspection skills. Therefore, a good understanding of the fundamentals is essential. It is strongly suggested that you have 2 years experience working with inspection and testing as a practising electrician before taking this course.

If you have no previous training or experience or need a refresher then the City and Guilds 2392-10 Fundamentals and Initial verification (Level 2) course contains both practical and theory and is good practice before progressing to the City & Guilds 2391 level 3 courses.

    This course will include a multiple-choice examination (40 questions – 80 minutes), a short answer test (1 hour) and a practical test (2 hours).
    During the City and Guilds 2391-51 Periodic Inspection course, you can expect a theoretical, instructor-led course with work spread over several days. Our experienced electrical training tutors will teach you about all aspects of Periodic Testing, including why it is required, the legislation behind it, health and safety, practical testing procedures and much more. There is a very small element of practice, however, no formal practical training will be provided.
    Those who successfully complete with the course will receive a City & Guilds 2391-51 Level 3 Award in Periodic Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations.

    • You will gain the necessary knowledge to safely perform periodic inspections and testing of electrical installations.

2391-51 covers all of the elements required to test and verify electrical installations and is an excellent course for any practising electrician who would like to work more closely with electrical installations.

It is highly recommended that you complete the City & Guilds 2391-50 Initial Verification of Electrical Installations course before attending this training.

At both of our training venues, we have comfortable, classroom-based environments for you to learn your theory and also have our own purpose-built electrical training bays and tools where you’ll gain the knowledge and skills to perform periodic testing.

Our training groups are kept as small as possible to ensure you get the best learning experience, with plenty of hands-on time with our tutors throughout the course. We also include refreshments and lunch every day on the course.


Progression Opportunities

City and Guilds 2391-51 is an essential course for any electrician who would like to test electrical installations.

With this course, you could progress into employment as an electrical installation technician or a professional electrician who is qualified to test installations.

Q – When Will the 2394/95 courses finish?A – Last registration for City and Guilds’s older courses will be at the end of August 2017 and you will have until August 2018 to complete these courses.

Q – Does this mean the 2394/95 courses will no longer be relevant?

A – No, the 2394 and 2395 courses will remain an acceptable Level 3 qualification. Those already with this qualification do not need to take the new 2391 course(s).

Q – I was unsuccessful with some of the elements of 2394/95, can I still retake this course?

A – Yes, you will have until August 2018 to complete this

Q – Have any of the exams changed for the new courses?

A – The biggest change is that all exams are now open-book. You are now permitted to refer to BS7671 Wiring Regulations and Guidance Note 3 books during the course and examinations
