One easy initial and periodic inspection and testing package

The course package is for experienced electricians who want to gain qualifications in inspection and testing , those who need to update existing qualifications or those who just want to move their career to the next level.

The first part of the course is the 4337 which focuses on the initial inspection and testing of electrical installations. The second part of the course is the 4338 which focuses on periodic inspection and testing.

All instructors are professional and highly experienced with a full knowledge of the subject and are full of useful industry information and tips.

The course package for the 4337 and 4338 courses are studied consecutively and allow learners to gain two EAL qualifications from one course booking.

The first four days of the six day long course focuses on the 4337 part of the course, which teaches the initial inspection and testing of installations. The final two days focus on the 4338 – periodic inspection and testing element of the course.

The combined course package is aimed at those in need of an update to their existing skills and those already working in the industry. Learners studying this course package will cover the following topics:

  • The difference between initial and periodic inspection and testing
  • Safe isolation of electrical circuits and installations
  • Initial verification of electrical installations
  • Inspection and testing for existing installations
  • Inspecting installations before they are put in service
  • Periodic inspections for existing installations
  • Safe testing and commissioning of new installations
  • Safe testing of existing installations already in service
  • Testing circuits prior to energising
  • Testing existing circuits
  • Reading and understanding test results
  • Completing installation certificates and other documents
  • Completing condition reports and other documents
  • Confirming systems are safe before carrying out inspection, testing and commissioning
  • Practical practice sessions to carry out what has been learnt

Assessment

The assessments for the EAL 4337 and 4338 combined course consist of two online, open book examinations and two practical assessments.

All assessments must be passed to ensure success and to gain the EAL qualification in the subject.

Certification

Those learners successfully passing both online exams and practical assessments for each aspect of the course package will be awarded with two EAL certificates for the 4337 and 4338 qualifications.

Length

The whole combined package course is six days long, the first four days focus on the 4337 part of the course and the final two days focus on the 4338 aspect of the course.

Course Suitability

The combined electrical course from EAL is most suitable for those already in the electrical industry with knowledge and experience of inspection and testing.  This could include industry professionals who need to gain qualifications to this level, those who want to update existing skills or those who want to move their career to the next level.

Anyone who has previously completed electrical qualifications but is unsure if they are suitable can contact us for help and information on suitability.

Progression & Development

The 4337 and 4338 qualifications are specified for JIB Grading and can be taken by those wanting to achieve this.

Pre-requisites

It is important that learners have a knowledge and understanding of electrical principles and experience of electrical testing within the industry. It is also important that learners have knowledge of the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations. Those holding the City and Guilds 2392-10 are ideal candidates for this course.

However, those who don’t meet the requirements can look at studying other qualifications, the Introduction to Inspection and Testing course may be a more suitable option.
