Download Course FactsheetThis electrical training course combines together the City and Guilds 2391-50 Level 3 Award in Initial Verification and the City and Guilds 2391-51 Level 3 Award in Periodic Inspection to deliver a comprehensive programme covering both disciplines. This course is also updated and complaint with the IET Wiring Regulations 18th Edition: BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 Requirements
With this qualification, you’ll gain the skills and preparation needed for initial verification and period inspection (and associated testing) of electrical installation work.
You can use this course to progress further in your electrical career as an installer, or you can use it to progress further onto other disciplines such as City and Guilds Level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations (2396).
By the end of this course, you will learn to:
- Understand the requirements for inspection and testing
- Understand safety management procedures when undertaking inspection and testing
- Understand the requirements for the inspection of electrical installations
- Understand the requirements for testing electrical installations

- We will be running the City and Guilds 2391-52 Inspection and Testing course at our Glasgow (Hamilton), Watford, London and Stockton-On-Tees, Teesside electrical training venues.
Are There any Qualifications Needed to Attend the Course?
Although there are no formal qualifications required for this electrical verification course, it is expected that you should have a good knowledge and understanding of electrical science and principles. Previous experience of electrical installation work, either within the electrical contracting industry or an allied trade is essential.
It is best suited to those who are working within the electrical industry and are actively involved with the inspection and testing process with previous experience of live boards. It is also useful for you to have an understanding of 3 phase systems.
There is a very small element of practice, however, no formal practical training will be provided.
You should also have a good understanding of the latest IET Wiring Regulations BS7671 and an up-to-date 18th Edition certificate.
In summary, this course is designed for those who want to progress their testing and inspection skills. Therefore, a good understanding of the fundamentals is essential. It is strongly suggested that you have 2 years experience working with inspection and testing as a practising electrician before taking this course.
If you have no previous training or experience or need a refresher then the City and Guilds 2392-10 Fundamentals and Initial verification (Level 2) course contains both practical and theory and is good practice before progressing to the City & Guilds 2391 level 3 courses.

Assessment
- This course will include a multiple-choice examination (60 questions – 2 hours), a short answer test (1 hour) and a practical test (2 hours)
What Can I Expect From the Course?
- During the City and Guilds Inspection and Testing course, you will be working in a classroom environment, within our purpose-built electrical installation training centre.
Our tutors will guide you through all aspects of inspection and testing ranging from basic health and safety to actually performing testing using different types of test equipment. As our groups are kept as small as possible, so you can expect plenty of hands-on tuition from our training team.

- Those who successfully complete with course will receive a City & Guilds 2391-52 Level 3 Award in Periodic Inspection and Testing

FAQs about City and Guilds 2391-52
Q – When Will the 2394/95 courses finish?
A – Last registration for City and Guilds’s older courses will be at the end of August 2017 and you will have until August 2018 to complete these courses.
Q – Does this mean the 2394/95 courses will no longer be relevant?
A – No, the 2394 and 2395 courses will remain an acceptable Level 3 qualification. Those already with this qualification do not need to take the new 2391 course(s).
Q – I was unsuccessful with some of the elements of 2394/95, can I still retake this course?
A – Yes, you will have until August 2018 to complete this
Q – Have any of the exams changed for the new courses?
A – The biggest change is that all exams are now open-book. You are now permitted to refer to BS7671 Wiring Regulations and Guidance Note 3 books during the course and examinations
