Course Details

The City and Guilds In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment 2377-77, more commonly known as PAT Testing, will teach you the process of PAT Testing alongside the theoretical knowledge set out by the IEE code of practice. The course is taught in modules and centres around the syllabus set by City & Guilds.  You will learn about the hazards of electricity, the different types of appliance classes, and the legal requirements of PAT testing.  The IEE Code of Practice is heavily featured in this course along with providing the experience of hands-on PAT testing using our range of supplied appliances and PAT testers.

You can also use your own PAT testers if you wish, we encouraged you to bring them along to the course so you can use them in the practical modules of this PAT Testing Course.

After the course candidates should have sufficient knowledge to carry out basic PAT testing work and satisfy the Electricity at Work Regulations.

Assessment

The course includes a 1 hour 45 minute, open-book PAT testing exam, City & Guilds PAT testing examination.

Certification

Anyone who attends receives a PASS attendance certificate. Those who complete the PAT testing course will be awarded a fully certified City and Guilds In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment 2377-77 certificate which deems you competent to undertake PAT testing work.

This is a two-day course.  From 9am to 5pm.
The course runs over two consecutive days with the City & Guilds exam included on the last day.

Course Suitability

City & Guilds does not set entry requirements for this qualification. However, candidates attempting the qualification are expected to be familiar with electrical systems and the hazards of electricity to satisfactorily complete the qualification.

It would also be beneficial to complete our 1 x day PAT Competence Course prior to the 2377-77

We recommend 2377-77 learners have the following:

  • An understanding of electrics/electrical background
  • An understanding of OHMs law
  • Basic maths skills
  • A knowledge of PAT testing

Pre-requisites

There are no formal pre-requisites required for this course, however, it is recommended that you have a strong interest in the subject and a basic understanding of electricity.

Learners are required to be familiar with and bring to the course a copy of the IET Code of Practice (5th Edition).

Please Note for the Examination: It is a City & Guilds rule that no digital devices are allowed in an exam room. Only original hard copies of the IET Code of Practice are allowed.
