This cable detection and cable avoidance course in Stockton-On-Tees is ideal for anyone who works in the utilities, construction, transportation, communications, petrochemical industries or works as contractors in those sectors, who may need to carry out excavation work.

Whether you are laying cables, fault finding or putting in underground utilities and services the correct use of CAT and Genny cable location equipment is essential to avoid underground cable strikes and to ensure a safe dig!

This Cable avoidance/detection course will give you all of the knowledge and skills that you need to use Cable Avoidance Tools (CAT) and Signal Generators (GENNY) effectively and learn how to trace underground cables and utility services that maybe located in the area that you need to work.

The course is designed to meet the guidance from HSG 47 for Avoiding Danger from Underground Services.

Course Details

The Cable Avoidance (CAT & Genny) course will cover:

• Use of CAT and Genny Equipment to detect and trace buried underground services
• Types of Services that exist underground
• Reasons for Locators
• Current Legislation
• Best Practice
• Implications of not using CAT & Genny equipment
• Interpreting & using utility plans
• Using observation skills
• Practical sessions
• Theory & Practical Assessment

Equipment

The course uses the Radiodection C.A.T.4 range of cable avoidance tools.

Course Duration

This is a ½ Day Course held at the PASS Training centre in Stockton-on-Tees
(AM Courses start at 08.45 and usually last around 3.5 hours).

Refreshments

A buffet lunch and refreshments are provided.

Course Certification

On successful completion of the course assessment you will receive a Certificate of competence from PASS Ltd.
It is recommended that all attendees should be refreshed every 3 years.

Course Suitability

Course Suitability

There are no prerequisites for this course. It is most suited to supervisors, managers or operators who will need to operate CAT and Genny equipment in the work place to avoid dangers underground.

A good grasp of English language is required as the course requires learners to read through safety notices and instruction manuals as part of the course and assessment.
