This 4-day CCN1 Re-assessment & Appliances course is for experienced gas engineers whose domestic ACS (CCN1) and associated appliance modules need renewing.

Accredited by LCL Awards, it includes re-assessment of the core domestic gas safety unit plus appliance modules such as CENWAT (central heating & hot water boilers), CKR1 (cookers), and HTR1 (space heaters/gas fires/wall heaters). Delivered at our Welwyn Garden City training centre, the course combines classroom updates and hands-on assessments to ensure you maintain Gas Safe registration and current professional competence.

To enrol in the CCN1 Re-assessment & Appliances course, you must:

• Already hold valid CCN1 and relevant appliance module(s) certificates that have lapsed or are due for renewal (within the allowable reassessment window).
• Be able to provide evidence of previous qualifications and certificate numbers.
• Be Gas Safe registered for domestic gas work.Provide photographic ID (passport or driving licence) at registration.

If your CCN1 or appliance modules have expired for more than 12 months, or if you have never held them, you may need to take the initial CCN1 course instead.

On successful completion, you will be awarded the LCL Awards certificate for CCN1 (Core Domestic Gas Safety) and for each appliance module you are assessed on (CENWAT, CKR1, HTR1). The certification is recognised by the Gas Safe Register and remains valid for five years.

Assessment is through a mixture of:

• Practical observations, including appliance servicing, boiler and water heater work, cookers, space heaters/gas fires and wall heaters.
• Written/multiple-choice exams, covering current gas safety legislation, combustion, ventilation, flueing, controls, and unsafe situations.
• Scenario-based assessments, testing your ability to apply updated safety practices in real-world settings.

All assessment elements must be passed for full certification.

Over the 2-day reassessment programme, you will undergo:

Re-assessment of CCN1 – Core Domestic Gas Safety, including updates on combustion, gas rates & pressures, gas pipework, ventilation, flueing, chimney systems, tightness testing and purging (low & medium pressure), and controls.

Appliance re-assessment modules:

• CENWAT – Central Heating Boilers & Hot Water Boilers: performance, operation, servicing.
• CKR1 – Cookers: installation and safety checks, fault finding.
• HTR1 – Space Heaters, Gas Fires & Wall Heaters: installation, venting, safety distances and servicing.

Focus on identifying installation defects, current best practices, safe working techniques, and ensuring compliance with updated standards.

• Stay up-to-date with recent regulatory changes and safety standards.
• Progress further by adding more appliance modules, or expanding into commercial, LPG or changeover training if required.
