Solar PV Roofing Installer Course

The one day solar roofing course for solar PV installations has been designed for professional roofers to allow them to work alongside solar PV electrical installers.

It covers all aspects required to safely plan and fit solar PV installation panels to a building and teaches the non-integrated grid mounted system, also known as the retro-fit mounting system.

The roofers course highlights all aspects of solar roofing installation including, safe working at heights, external surveys, roof construction, layout planning, positioning, fixing systems, electrical installations and simple electrical testing.

Following is a detailed breakdown of each aspect of the course.

  • The course begins by highlighting the importance of safe working at heights including carrying out a risk assessment, ensuring the correct equipment is used and taking measures to prevent falls.
  • The external survey section highlights the importance of ensuring the roof is checked for damage, structural problems and any other issues that may make solar PV installation unsafe.
  • The roof construction section outlines the main types of roof builds possible and how each type will affect the installation of PV solar panels.
  • The layout planning section covers important factors to consider at the planning stage, including basic considerations like the direction the roof faces.
  • The positioning of the system section shows how to correctly and safely position a PV system on a roof.
  • The fixing systems section shows the types of fixing equipment available and how they are used to ensure a safely fixed roofing system.
  • The DC electrical installation section promotes an awareness of DC cable installations and essentially shows how the cables on the back of the panels connect.
  • The simple electrical testing of the PV modules section is carried out to highlight the essential tests and procedures required for use.
