Suitability

All electrical work that is undertaken in domestic premises must now comply with building regulations legislation section Part P.

This Part P electrical training is suited for any individual who undertakes basic electrical work as part of their main trade, for example: electrical installers, plumbers, kitchen fitters, joiners, heating engineers and loft conversion companies. A training certificate must also be held in order to self-certify any work carried out within a domestic property.

Anyone looking to enhance their previous electrician training or build upon experience from a plumbing course would find this Part P course a valuable asset. It would also be beneficial for anyone considering a career change into a trade where undertaking electrical work within domestic properties is part of the job!

Upon successful completion of this Part P training course for the Domestic Electrical Installer, candidates will be able to apply to one of five nationally-accredited Competent Persons schemes. The five schemes are run by NAPIT, NICEIC, Gas Safe, ELECSA, BSI.

Course Overview

The Part P Full Scope - VRQ Level 2 electrical training course is designed to give candidates an understanding of the skills and competencies required by someone carrying out electrical installation work.  To achieve the Part P Level 2 VRQ candidates are required to complete the following units:

  • Applicable Building Regulations for Domestic Electrical Installation
  • Electrical Safety Legislation, Regulations, Standards and Terminology
  • Domestic Electrical Circuit Installation
  • Installing Domestic Lighting Circuits
  • Domestic Electrical Earthing and Bonding Requirements
  • Inspection, Testing and Commissioning Single Phase Domestic Electrical Circuits
  • Special Locations and Installations Including Kitchens
  • Domestic Electrical Installation Pre-Work Survey/Inspection
  • Basic Understanding of 3 Phase

Pre-requisites

Although candidates do not need to have formal prior knowledge or qualifications for this Part P VRQ Level 2, it would be beneficial to have some knowledge and practice of electrical installation in dwellings.

Assessment

The Part P Full Scope - VRQ Level 2 electrical training course will be assessed by means of a 45 minute closed-book online examination. Successful candidates must also pass all eight training modules in addition to the online examination.

Certification

Successful candidates will achieve an Part P Full Scope - VRQ Level 2 certificate and a certificate of attendance from PASS.

Candidates who fail the examination will only receive a certificate of attendance from PASS.

Requirements

Candidates are required to bring with them a current copy of BS 7671 2008 - IEE 17th Edition Wiring Regulation and a copy of BS 7671 2008 IEE On-site Guide.
